Meet Rafael: Culturally Affirming & Trauma-Informed Therapist
Hi, I’m Rafael Cazares, LMFT, and I support adults & teens struggling with anxiety and/or depression. As a Latino therapist, it’s important for me to provide culturally affirming and trauma-informed care. Overthinking, burnout, and emotional fatigue are often tied to your history, family dynamics, culture, and lived identity. It is my hope to truly get to know you and provide support in your time of need.
My approach is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This simply means that our work is centered on being more mentally flexible, present, and action-oriented. Together, we’ll slow down, notice what happens, identify alternatives, and go towards what matters the most to you.
Therapy Services for Adults & Teens
Anxiety & Overthinking Therapy
Anxiety is a natural response that becomes problematic when it simply won't turn off. Its more challenging forms can show up as constant worry, overthinking, restlessness, and bodily tension often leading to self-criticism, perfectionism, and avoidance. In therapy, we focus on learning to calm both your body and mind.
Culturally Affirming Therapy
Culture, family dynamics, and our lived identity add layers of complexity to how we respond to anxiety and depression. It’s hard to make sense of your challenges if emotional wellness was never modeled for you or if speaking about it was frowned upon. It can also feel challenging to do things differently when you risk feeling disconnected from those who make you, well, you. Therapy is about learning to balance these experiences, set boundaries, and make authentic decisions that honor both yourself and your duty to others.
Depression & Burnout Therapy
Depression is a quiet, silent struggle rooted in both biology and behavior. It can show up as exhaustion, emotional numbness, lack of motivation, shame, and feelings of loneliness. For some (especially men), it appears as constantly staying busy while feeling unfulfilled or irritated. In therapy, we learn to distance ourselves from unhelpful thoughts, move toward better choices, and get back in tune with your inner self.
Teen Anxiety Therapy, Ages 14-18
"I’m going through changes." Yeah, adolescence is challenging for a variety of reasons, and a lot of it feels out of your control. Navigating academics, identity, peer pressure, parental expectations, and unpredictable hormonal changes is hard. Whether you are trying to make sense of it yourself or looking to help your teen, therapy offers a dedicated, confidential space to figure it all out together, with periodic updates to keep parents connected.
