My Story: Navigating Two Worlds

Hi there! I’m Rafael Cazares, LMFT.

As a Mexican-American professional, the son of immigrants, and the first in my family to graduate from college, my practice is built around a single truth:

You can deeply honor your roots while updating the unwritten family rules about success and stress so they work for the life you are building today.

Growing up, I lived the reality of the acculturation gap, navigating the traditional world of immigrant parents while later carving out my own path in a high-pressure corporate career.

My own journey was not a straight line. I chose to completely change career paths and redefine my life, so I know firsthand the unique mix of fear and freedom that comes with stepping out of a predictable track to build a new blueprint.

I know the specific friction this lifestyle creates.

I bring my genuine personality, direct honesty, and warmth into every session so we can handle the messiness of change together. You do not have to walk this path alone.

The Systemic Mindset: Therapy as an Ecosystem

My perspective is deeply shaped by a systemic lens, which is exactly what being a Marriage and Family Therapist is all about.

Having navigated a major career transition myself, I look at your current challenges not as personal failures, but as a complex ecosystem.

I do not look at your burnout, trauma, or focus challenges in isolation.

Instead, I look at how your history, your daily operational workload, your family dynamics, and your physical habits all connect.

Because of this, I naturally value clarity, strategic purpose, and a clear roadmap for change. We focus on identifying the cognitive patterns and daily loops that are keeping you stuck so you can-consciously choose your next move.

Grounded in Daily Reality

My most important roles are right at home as a partner and a parent.

Navigating these major life transitions keeps me completely grounded in the daily realities, sleepless nights, and heavy pressures of family responsibility.

I do not just teach relational health; I actively practice it in my own connections every single day.

My goal is to help you build the practical skills to manage your internal world, make sense of your physical stress, and navigate early parenthood so you can show up for yourself and the people who matter most as a steady, supportive teammate.

Identity, Language & Lived ExperienceIdentity, Language & Lived Experience

The Wrestle with Labels (Latino, Latine, Latinx)

Across this site, I primarily use the word Latino for a very practical reason: it is simply what most people search for when they are looking for support.

But transparently, I wrestle with this choice.

I feel a constant internal tug between wanting to be completely affirming and welcoming to everyone, while also wanting to maximize my reach so I can help heal our community as a whole.

It is incredibly easy to get trapped in our own minds trying to find the perfect word, overanalyzing what is right, or worrying about saying the wrong thing. We will not let labels become another mental trap.

This is a fully welcoming and identity affirming space. Whether you connect with Latine, Latinx, Latino, or prefer no labels at all, our vocabulary adapts to you instead of the other way around.

Real Talk on Generations

Generational terms can be just as confusing.

Textbook sociology says if you immigrated, you are first generation, and if you were born here to immigrant parents, you are second generation.

But in real life, many people born here naturally feel like first-generation Americans because they are the first to navigate American corporate spaces, higher education, or specialized professional fields.

We are not here to pass a sociology test.

Whether you identify as first generation, second generation, or simply feel the heavy friction of straddling two distinct worlds, I am here for your actual, lived experience, not a textbook definition.
